Biography
Laurie Talbot Hall holds Master of Studio Art and Master of Fine Arts in Photography Degrees. She studied at the University of Iowa, Hebrew and American Universities in Israel, and at Tisch School of the Arts NYU, New York City. She taught photography and psychology at the University of Iowa and art and creativity at the D. H. Lawrence Ranch Program of the University of New Mexico. Talbot Hall's dual interests in art and psychology have led to the creation of work that attempts to visualize personal internal experiences. These glimpses into preconscious processes are examined through a wide range of media, finding coherence in the subject matter: the intrapsychic experience of the individual as she negotiates the challenges of our physical, social and intrapersonal environments. Because the dynamic and symbolic life of the individual coexists with the mundane, the familiar can go menacingly askew or blossom into the marvelous.
Hall curated the exhibition "Fearlessness: Moving Forward in a Post-truth Environment" for PhotoMidwest in 2017. In 2020, she organized "PERSIST and Reimagine" for Women's Work Art Gallery, Detroit, a regional exhibition of work visualizing the COVID pandemic and the concurrent social upheaval. Hall has exhibited widely, is represented in public and private collections and in publications of The American Photography Institute, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, Magic Silver, Montana Magazine, National Women's Caucus for Art, and The University of New Mexico. An independent artist, curator and collector, she serves as Midwest Regional Chair on the board of directors of the National Women's Caucus for Art.
